E Tipu, E Rea – Te Whaihanga

PILOT PROGRAMME  |  INVITATION ONLY

E Tipu, E Rea – Te Whaihanga is a kaupapa Māori screenwriting development programme for emerging Māori storytellers from Te Tairāwhiti.

Delivered by Te Tairāwhiti Arts Festival and supported by the NZ Film Commission, it’s an early step to grow creatives, capability and opportunities from Te Tairāwhiti outward.
It offers an accessible, culturally considered entry point into the screen sector, for those with little or no experience in screenwriting.

The pilot brings together five nationally acclaimed screen and stage writers from across the country to support fifteen participants to craft and develop original stories, with a pathway from initial concept and script refinement, through to live readings and ultimately, larger-scale projects.

It builds kaupapa Māori screenwriting practice and regional Māori participation in Aotearoa’s screen sector.

A first for Aotearoa, ‘E Tipu, E Rea – Te Whaihanga ‘ exemplifies Te Tairāwhiti creatives leading the way.
